Usage Tips

Check location data before sharing a photo

Photos taken with a smartphone or camera can contain EXIF metadata such as shooting location, time, and device information. Before uploading images to online boards, secondhand marketplaces, messengers, or work documents, check GPS and sensitive metadata first, and use a cleaned file when needed.

What is Photo EXIF Viewer & Metadata Remover?

Photo EXIF Viewer & Metadata Remover analyzes photo metadata in your browser, shows capture time, device, GPS, software, lens, author/copyright, and XMP/IPTC exposure, then creates a cleaned image with sensitive metadata removed. Metadata checking and cleanup currently works with JPG, JPEG, and PNG photos.

How to Use

  1. 1Upload a photo via drag-and-drop or file picker.
  2. 2Review capture time, device model, software, lens, author/copyright, image size, and GPS coordinates.
  3. 3Check sensitive-data badges for location, time, device, XMP, and IPTC exposure.
  4. 4Remove metadata, review the follow-up scan, and download the cleaned file.

Reference Knowledge

  • EXIF may include capture time, device model, lens, editing software, and GPS location.
  • XMP and IPTC/Photoshop metadata can contain author, copyright, editor, and description fields.
  • GPS values are converted to decimal coordinates for readable display.
  • Metadata removal generates a new file excluding JPEG EXIF/XMP APP1, IPTC/Photoshop APP13, or PNG metadata chunks (eXIf/tEXt/iTXt/zTXt/tIME).
  • The post-removal check re-analyzes the generated file to confirm whether major sensitive metadata remains.
  • All processing is local in-browser with no server upload.

FAQ

Q.Which file formats are supported?

A.

This tool focuses on checking and removing photo EXIF/GPS metadata. Metadata cleanup currently works with JPG, JPEG, and PNG photos. JPG/JPEG files can be checked for common EXIF, GPS, XMP, and IPTC/Photoshop metadata, while PNG files are checked for metadata chunks such as eXIf, tEXt, iTXt, zTXt, and tIME.

Q.Does PNG contain GPS metadata too?

A.

PNG usually contains less location metadata than JPEG, but eXIf and text-based chunks can still hold capture details, descriptions, or XMP data. This tool detects and removes PNG eXIf, tEXt, iTXt, zTXt, and tIME chunks.

Q.What if GPS metadata is missing?

A.

The result clearly shows that GPS metadata is not available. Even when GPS is missing, capture time, camera/device details, editing software, author/copyright, XMP, or IPTC metadata may still remain, so review the sensitive-data badges as well.

Q.What happens to the original photo?

A.

The original file is untouched; only a new cleaned copy is generated for download. After removal, the generated file is scanned again so you can see whether major EXIF, GPS, XMP, or IPTC metadata remains.

Q.Is my photo uploaded to a server?

A.

No. EXIF parsing, XMP/IPTC detection, metadata removal, and the post-removal scan all run entirely in your browser. The photo is not uploaded to a server, which makes the tool useful for quick privacy checks before sharing personal images.
